Swedes triumph at Rudskogen Motorsenter

The fourth and penultimate round of this year’s Formula GT Challenge was held in style at Norway’s largest motorsport facility, Rudskogen Motorsenter, set among the rolling hills near Rakkestad. For the first time, the championship formed part of Formula Racing Days, which attracted thousands of fans for a weekend of racing and entertainment for the whole family.

Spectators were treated to an impressive display of Ferrari and Maserati models – ranging from the latest sports cars to some of the rarest and most valuable examples – while Formula GT Challenge provided the action on track. With summer weather, spectacular surroundings and a strong field of drivers from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, the championship’s debut on Norwegian soil proved a great success.

– It has been a weekend filled with Ferrari enthusiasm. Rudskogen is a truly outstanding venue and, as expected, the circuit delivered intense and entertaining racing. We had a strong field of talented drivers from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and they fought all the way to the chequered flag. The weekend’s results have even blown the championship battle wide open, so we can now look forward to an exciting season finale with several drivers having everything to fight for, says Chresten Hansen, Race Promoter at Formula Automobile.

New leader in the championship battle

The drama began in the first of the weekend’s three races, when championship leader Andreas Borris went off the track in his Ferrari 296 Challenge. The incident prevented the Dane from taking part in the remaining races, costing him valuable championship points. Borris has now dropped to second in the overall standings with 78 points, while Sweden’s Christian Appelberg, who claimed two second places before winning the final race of the weekend, has taken the championship lead with 84 points.

At the same time, Carl Moon delivered an impressive comeback after missing the previous round at FDM Jyllandsringen. The Swede was flying at Rudskogen, claiming two victories and a third place to secure the overall winner’s trophy for the weekend – and move from seventh to fourth in the championship standings.

Third place in the standings is held by Christian Nielsen and Frederik Nielsen, who have jointly scored 74 points in their Ferrari 296 Challenge. The major reshuffle means that no fewer than five drivers now have a mathematical chance of securing the championship title when the fifth and final round takes place at FDM Jyllandsringen in September.

Crone challenged in Coppa Formula

The championship battle also intensified in Coppa Formula between Danish title favourites Christian Crone and Ulrich Thomsen. The Rudskogen weekend proved a major triumph for Thomsen, who won all three races ahead of Crone in second place and Maciej Walenda in third.

Crone remains at the top of the championship standings with 113 points, but with Thomsen emerging as the weekend’s biggest points scorer – taking his tally to 98 points – the gap between the two has been significantly reduced ahead of the decisive finale.

Next stop: Jyllandsringen

The 2026 Formula GT Challenge will be decided as part of the DM-Finalen at FDM Jyllandsringen on 26–27 September. The traditional season finale will also decide several other national and Scandinavian championships, promising packed grandstands and a busy paddock as drivers and mechanics prepare for a weekend with plenty at stake.
