Formula GT Challenge champions to be crowned at Jyllandsringen

After a season of close, intense and action-packed racing at circuits in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Formula GT Challenge is ready for the grand finale. The fifth and final round of the 2026 championship takes place this coming weekend, with a large field of Ferrari race cars from Denmark, Norway and Sweden ready to battle for the final points of the year.

The finale will take place as part of the traditional ‘Finaleløbet’ at FDM Jyllandsringen, where a number of Danish motorsport championships are decided each year. Formula GT Challenge will also crown champions in two classes: the overall Trofeo Pirelli classification, dominated by the latest Ferrari 296 Challenge models, and Coppa Formula for 488 Challenge and older models.

Several drivers in contention for the title

In Trofeo Pirelli, three cars remain in contention for the overall 2026 title. Sweden’s Christian Appelberg arrives at Jyllandsringen as the championship leader with 84 points, closely followed by defending Danish champion Andreas Borris on 78 points. Christian Nielsen and Frederik Nielsen, who share their Ferrari 296 Challenge, are also in contention in third place with 74 points.

Following a strong season, the three cars have already secured the three places on the championship podium – the only question is who will stand on the top step. With 16 points available in each of the weekend’s three races, nothing has been decided in advance.

Coppa Formula is also set for a close title fight. Young Dane Christian Crone leads the class with 113 points, but compatriot Ulrich Thomsen follows closely behind on 96 points. Thomsen also arrives at the finale with strong momentum after sweeping all three race victories in the previous round at Rudskogen in Norway. Further back, Sweden’s Thomas Belfrage and Denmark’s Maciej Walenda will battle for third place in the championship.

“It’s going to be a true finale weekend where nothing has been decided in advance. Several drivers have performed extremely well this season, and we have seen plenty of races with close battles. With the current championship standings, the excitement is at its peak for the drivers, the teams and, not least, the spectators. At the same time, we are part of the traditional Finaleweekend at FDM Jyllandsringen, where a number of championships will be decided, so we are looking forward to a weekend with plenty of excitement and enthusiasm both in the paddock and in the grandstands,” says Chresten Hansen, Race Promoter at Formula Automobile.

As usual, there will be plenty to see for both motorsport fans and Ferrari enthusiasts. The finale weekend’s field features a diverse selection of race cars from Maranello, with examples of the Ferrari 296 Challenge, 488 Challenge, 488 GT3 and 458 Challenge on the entry list.

Genuine Formula 1 car in the paddock

As is tradition, Formula GT Challenge will also have its own dedicated area in the paddock, where spectators can get close to the cars and follow the teams’ preparations in the garages. And to mark the season finale, a Ferrari Formula 1 car from the 2017 season, previously driven by former Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen, will be on display.

A weekend ticket costs DKK 200, while a ticket for Sunday’s races costs DKK 150. Tickets can be purchased in advance through FDM Jyllandsringen’s webshop. All grandstand seating is free for spectators throughout the finale weekend.
