Successful season opener at Anderstorp

With great weather, strong spectator attendance and a grid featuring both experienced profiles and promising newcomers making an immediate impact, the foundations were laid for another intense season in the Scandinavian Ferrari GT championship. Alongside the overall championship category, Trofeo Pirelli – dominated by the latest Ferrari 296 Challenge models – drivers also competed in the Coppa Formula class.

– It has been an absolutely successful start to the season. Especially because of the strong participation, but also thanks to an ideal circuit, as Anderstorp – with its long straight and technical sections – suits the Challenge cars extremely well. At the same time, it has been a busy weekend featuring practice sessions, qualifying and a total of four races across three days, giving the drivers plenty of valuable track time. Congratulations to all the winners. We are now looking forward to the third round at FDM Jyllandsringen, where we aim to continue the strong momentum, says Formula Automobile Race Promoter Chresten Hansen.

Close battle in Trofeo Pirelli

The top-class Trofeo Pirelli category delivered racing at the highest level throughout the weekend. Saturday’s opening race featured a close battle between Swedish drivers Christian Appelberg and Carl Moon, with Appelberg ultimately taking victory by just 0.4 seconds ahead of his compatriot, while Danish defending Formula GT Challenge champion Andreas Borris finished third.

Appelberg followed up with another victory in Saturday’s second race ahead of Borris and Moon before Sunday produced new names at the front. Appelberg and Moon were running first and second respectively when the two Swedish drivers collided and went off track, losing their positions and allowing Borris to take the win instead. The Dane repeated the achievement in Sunday’s fourth and final race.

Norwegian driver Aslak Lie also impressed with a second-place finish in Sunday’s first race. Danish brothers Christian and Frederik Nielsen, who share a Ferrari 296 Challenge and alternate driving duties, also joined the fight at the front, with Frederik securing both a second- and third-place finish in Sunday’s races.

After the opening two rounds, Andreas Borris leads the championship standings with 53 points ahead of Christian and Frederik Nielsen on a combined 36 points, while Aslak Lie sits third with 34 points.

Crone in control in Coppa Formula

In Coppa Formula, Christian Crone set the pace throughout the weekend. The young Danish driver, making his GT racing debut, delivered an impressive performance at Anderstorp where – after securing pole position in both qualifying sessions – he claimed three wins out of four possible.

Promising start to the 2026 season

With four races completed, plenty of action and a strong Scandinavian field, the tone has been set for a season that promises to be both close and entertaining. The next round of Formula GT Challenge takes place on May 30 at FDM Jyllandsringen near Silkeborg, where the intensity will increase further with practice, qualifying and races all taking place within a single day. The event will be conducted as an exclusive closed-door arrangement, meaning activities will take place without public attendance.
